Steelin’ Dan is a Steely Dan tribute band, but it also offers audiences something that the real Steely Dan could not.

“When (Steely Dan) started touring in 1972, they toured twice, but they hated touring and stopped. ... A lot of people like me grew up with (their music), but most have never seen (these songs) performed live,” said Ron Hall, bassist and manager of Steelin’ Dan.

“What we offer is that chance to see some of their songs from their non-touring years performed live.”

The Sacramento-based tribute band will perform Saturday at Colusa Casino Resort.

Steely Dan broke up in 1981 but got together for reunion tours in the 1990s. In 2000, the band reunited again to produce “Two Against Nature,” an album that would go on to win four Grammy awards. The band is currently on a world tour.

Steelin’ Dan’s setlist is oriented toward the more “classic” Steely Dan, Hall said. “We do some of the recent songs, but we really focus on their classic songs from the 1970s and 1980s. None of our songs are obscure. ... It’s pretty tough to pull off (some of them) live, which is why we need a 10-piece band.

“I think a lot of the baby boomers are at a point where they’re sort of tired of hearing band after band playing the same songs. ... What we offer is songs they haven’t heard before live.”
