Steely Dan announce US tour

Well, it was inevitable, and now it's here. Becker and Fagen are coming back to the U.S. Two shows were announced today, with the promise of more to follow. Here's what we know so far.
* June 09, 2009 at the Performing Arts Center in Durham, NC (tickets go on sale April 17)
* August 15, 2009 at the Chastain Park Amphitheater in Atlanta, GA (on sale now)
In between those dates, they are back in Europe for the "Left Bank Holiday" tour. The U.S. Steely Dan tour has been dubbed "Rent Party '09."

If you live near Northern California, especially Sacramento, and can't wait to hear some Steely Dan, check out the Steelin' Dan live shows page, break out your hats and hooters, and come see a note-perfect tribute to Steely Dan.

New fan videos

There are several new videos of Steelin' Dan performing in February 2009 that are now up on youtube.  These were shot by folks in the audience.  Click on the photo below to check out Steely Dan's "Peg" performed by Steelin' Dan.  There are a few more over on the videos page.

Lucky Friday the 13th

Friday the thirteenth at a casino, what better time to present the ironic music of Steely Dan?  It sure felt lucky to us.  And ironic.  Playing "Do It Again" at a casino... ooo...that's good.
Steelin' Dan at Feather Falls Casino
We had a ball playing at Feather Falls Casino in the showroom.  There's nothing like spotlights and fog machines and about a dozen subwoofers to really make it a party.  If you were one of the lucky many that caught the show, thank you!  That was a wing-ding, was it not?  Hope you all were just as lucky with the slots.  Rumor has it that one of the band's entourage did rather well on the Wheel of Fortune after the show.  Bob also was quite lucky after the show.  He made it all the way home without incident, up into the foothills, in the wee hours of the morning, in a snowstorm.

Steely Dan dropped in at Harvey's Lake Tahoe last night on the Think Fast 2008 tour, and put on a masterful show. We couldn't have done it better ourselves.  Lord knows, we've tried!  A bunch of us were there to see them, and from pretty close up too.  In fact, our vocalist/guitarist Michael Beaman got to meet Steely Dan guitarist Jon Harrington after the show... check it out!

Some press on the Colusa Casino show

Here's a blurb from the Marysville Appeal-Democrat about one of our casino shows.

Steelin’ Dan offers more than typical tribute band

Steelin’ Dan is a Steely Dan tribute band, but it also offers audiences something that the real Steely Dan could not.

“When (Steely Dan) started touring in 1972, they toured twice, but they hated touring and stopped. ... A lot of people like me grew up with (their music), but most have never seen (these songs) performed live,” said Ron Hall, bassist and manager of Steelin’ Dan.

“What we offer is that chance to see some of their songs from their non-touring years performed live.”

The Sacramento-based tribute band will perform Saturday at Colusa Casino Resort.

Steely Dan broke up in 1981 but got together for reunion tours in the 1990s. In 2000, the band reunited again to produce “Two Against Nature,” an album that would go on to win four Grammy awards. The band is currently on a world tour.

Steelin’ Dan’s setlist is oriented toward the more “classic” Steely Dan, Hall said. “We do some of the recent songs, but we really focus on their classic songs from the 1970s and 1980s. None of our songs are obscure. ... It’s pretty tough to pull off (some of them) live, which is why we need a 10-piece band.

“I think a lot of the baby boomers are at a point where they’re sort of tired of hearing band after band playing the same songs. ... What we offer is songs they haven’t heard before live.”
